Back to Boxes

I stumbled across some beautiful quartersawn American Sycamore recently, which inspired me to turn it into a box. The wood is from Green Valley Wood Products in Indiana.
I was originally looking for some Sassafrass but couldn't resist buying the Sycamore when I saw the quartersawn boards. This is the first time I've ever worked with Sycamore. It's a bit soft, but I found it fun to work with and I will definitely use it on other projects.
The box is accented with a solid Black Walnut stripe through the lid. The bottom of the box is a black walnut veneer. For a finish, I used shellac followed by a coat of beeswax.
